Cibola’s Jonathan Mader had a huge
junior season. He is also one of
the top senior prospects in all of New
Mexico next season. Three colleges have come in and asked
him to send out some tape. Which
schools?
PrepNewMexico.com: What kind of things are you
looking forward to about Spring Ball?
Mader: For the most part, just getting
back on the field with my teammates.
It’s the beginning of the evaluation process. Its always exciting to see which players
are gonna step up, and to start the team bonding. Championships are won during the
off-season. And I guarantee
you nobody will be working harder this off-season then the Cibola
Cougars.
PrepNewMexico.com:: What players from last year’s
squad will be missed most this year?
Mader: There are so many names from last
year’s squad that will be missed.
But just to name a few; Joe Lehocky TE and Michael Marthe C. A lot of our
starting defense last year were also seniors, so they will definitely be
missed.
PrepNewMexico.com: What underclassman are you
expecting to step up this year?
Mader: Rio Mares OL/DL, Daniel Fiaseu RB, and Ryan Williams
TE.
PrepNewMexico.com: Have you gotten any offers as of
yet?
Mader: No
PrepNewMexico.com: If you had a top 5 schools as of
right now who would it be?
Mader: Texas Tech, Arizona State, LSU, BYU, and New Mexico
PrepNewMexico.com: Have any schools come by to talk
with you or have any schools requested to see your tape?
Mader: TCU, Virginia and Arizona State have all requested
film.
PrepNewMexico.com: What is your greatest football
memory?
Mader: Beating Highland in the
quarterfinals last season. We
wanted to assure the community that Judge made the right decision by coming over
to the west side.
PrepNewMexico.com: What aspect of your game have you
really worked on to get better for this upcoming season?
Mader: During the off-season there is
always something you can improve.
Your goal should always be to strive for perfection, although nobody can
ever be perfect. That should still be your goal. I am mainly focusing on my simple
mechanics and arm strength, the little things that will show down the
road.
PrepNewMexico.com: Name one teammate who has really
improved since last season?
Mader: Everybody has been working hard
so far this off-season. But it’s
easy to see that Cory Powell (WR, ATH) has improved the most. Speed, strength, his hard work will pay
off this fall.
PrepNewMexico.com: What is the best piece of advice
you have ever gotten?
Mader: Ain’t no need to know where I’m
going, just need to know where I’ve been.

Jon in the near future.
