Heading into our top 2 QB’s we
know bring you Cibola’s Jonathan Mader. Deciding on who the #2 spot is was a lot
harder than people think. Sandoval
from Mayfield can make a great argument that he is the #2 guy. He actually had more total yards from
scrimmage than did Mader. However
we decided that because of Mader’s size and his recruitment possiblities that he
gets the nod over Sandoval.
Last season Cibola was one of the surprise teams in the state. Led by Jonathan Mader on the offensive
side of the ball the Cougars had a magical run. With lots of starters coming back this
season Cibola is expecting a big season. But it all starts with Mader.
At 6’4 and 205 Mader has the size
that coaches love. Add in the fact
that he runs in the 4.9 range and you can see that Mader is more than just a big
kid. He has great athleticism that
allows him to be a multiple threat for his offense. Teams have to respect both his arm and
his legs. As a junior Mader’s arm
threw for over 1600 yards and found the end zone for 19 touchdowns. He also was able to run for more than
450 yards and another 7 touchdowns.
Those stats and the teams success allowed Mader to gain District player
of the year honors.
From a recruiting standpoint,
Mader has been very busy this summer attending all kinds of camps. He was out at Arizona State last Sunday, Mader had a good
showing at that camp. He was one of
the top 5 signal callers in attendance at that event. At the camp he showed great athleticism
by running one of the fastest 40 times for the QB’s. He also threw the ball well
with good touch. It will be
interesting to see if his recruitment begins to pick up now that he’s had a
chance to show what he can do in person.
