Year in and year out, Clovis HS is one of the top overall programs in the state of New Mexico. They are always a threat to win a state title. This past season they lost in the finals to Mayfield, but they will be back. Clovis always has kids that are tough and hard nosed. One of those players that will be a major contributor again next season is LB Lane Ward. We recently had a chance to chat with the senior LB; here is what he had to say.
PrepNewMexico.com: What is your height, weight, 40 times, bench and squat?
Lane: I’m 5'11, 180 don’t know exactly my 40 times, bench is 250 and squat I have not got a chance since football has been over
PrepNewMexico.com: What honors did you receive this past season?
Lane: I was voted defensive play maker award, all academic award, and 1st team all district
PrepNewMexico.com: What were your stats from last season?
Lane: I finished with 133 solo tackles and 86 assists 219 total tackles
PrepNewMexico.com: What was your best memory from this past season?
Lane: My best memory this season was walking out on our home field during the state game and how the crowd just was crazy and how stoked I was!
PrepNewMexico.com: What are you doing to prepare for next season?
Lane: Just mainly lifting more and trying to gain much more weight
PrepNewMexico.com: What are your strengths as a football player?
Lane: I would say my feel for the game and my football instincts I have good football smarts
PrepNewMexico.com: What are your weaknesses as a football player?
Lane: I would say my size that is why I am working on it
PrepNewMexico.com: What do you like most about the game of football?
Lane: I love the adrenaline rush I get from the game and also the contact!
PrepNewMexico.com: Who is the best player you have ever played against?
Lane: I would have to say Matt Sandoval QB from Mayfield. He is a huge play maker for his team and I am really glad he was a senior and we won’t have to be playing against him anymore
PrepNewMexico.com: What are your aspirations as far as playing football in college?
Lane: I really want to go to college and hopefully get a scholarship to play anywhere!
PrepNewMexico.com: Name some teammate’s people need to look out for next season?
My main team mates to look out for this year are, Josh Potocki, Scott Mcmath, Logan Denton and Parker Wood.
PrepNewMexico.com: What can we expect from your team next year?
Lane: We are going to be a young team but will come out and get after it this year!
