Over the last couple of weeks we have been able to bring you interviews with several of the top players for the 2008 class. Today we bring you one of the better underclassmen in Onate junior to be Zach Daugherty. Daugherty had an outstanding sophomore campaign earning 2nd team all district honors and appears to have an even bigger junior year. With good size at 6’1 200 look for this linebacker to be one of the better defensive players in New Mexico over the next couple of years.

2nd Team All District 3-AAAAA, Most Outstanding Linebacker, Defensive Points Leader

6'1,195
What is your greatest football memory?
In 6th grade I knocked another players chinstrap off
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
My goals are to make 1st team All State, and be the leading tackler in the state. My team goals are for us to TAKE STATE, have the best defense in the state and go undefeated.
What are you doing to prepare for this season? Will you attend any camps this summer?
This off season I am lifting as hard as i can and doing everything that will improve me as a player. And me and a buddy pull railroad ties as often as we can. Yeah I am going to a few camps hopefully,one at NMSU and UNM and maybe a few others.
What aspect of your game have you really worked hard on to improve?
I am working hard on speed and quickness and also on shedding blocks faster.
Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for next year?
The whole team
Name one teammate that you respect the most and why?
I respect Johnathan Sanchez because he works just as hard as me, we push each other to the limit and we think alike.
What are your goals as far as playing football in college?
I want to play college hopefully for any D-1 school but I'll play anywhere
Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any early offers to speak of?
I'm only a sophomore right now so colleges cant really recruit me yet.

Yes

Who is the best player you ever played against and why?
I think the best player I have ever played against is Jeremy Lususky because he had good technique and was aggressive.

I play basketball and run track

How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?
I think he would describe as a hard worker, a leader and an intense player
What is your strength as a football player?
My strenghts are my size, smarts, playing from sideline to sideline, my reads, and my aggressiveness
What is your weakness as a football player?
My weaknesses are my quickness, and my aggressiveness
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
My favorite athlete is Brian Urlacher because he plays hard, doesn't talk about his game, and comes from a small city.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten? Who did you get it from?
There is a lot of advice I've gotten but I think the piece that I use the most is to never quit or back down. I got it from a lot of different people.
Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
My brother has been the most influential person in my life because I have always looked up to him and respected him.
