When an offensive lineman is 6’5 and 330 pounds it’s easy to understand why colleges want to take a look at his film. It’s also easy to understand why colleges will want to get involved in recruiting that player if he has talent. That seems to be the case for Cibola lineman Rio Mares. Mares at this point in the process, is the only player in New Mexico with multiple offers on the table getting offers from New Mexico and New Mexico State.
Rio informed us of his intentions this summer and plans he has to showcase his talent. According to Mares, at this point he still only has the two offers on the table, but recruiting is starting to pick up a little. Mares is hearing from Utah, Wisconsin, Texas Tech and Boise State on a fairly routine basis. He also says that both New Mexico and New Mexico State have been by campus to visit with him. Finally, Nebraska has requested him to send film.
Mares will be out and about this summer attending several different camps and combines; he has already attended a camp at Texas Tech and will also be in attendance at the Scout.com combine later this month.
Mares is sending us his film that he sent earlier to Nebraska, which are highlights from his junior season. We will post that tape as soon as it becomes available to us.
