Combine Recap: James Hall

Publisher
Posted Jun 3, 2008

RB James Hall from Las Cruces HS gives us his thoughts on his performance at the Scout.com combine. He also weighs in on the recruiting process and which schools are showing him the most attention at this point. Free story today let's talk this up on the boards.

There is no one who argues that RB James Hall from Las Cruces is the top overall RB in the state and he is currently #2 on our list as the top prospect in the state this season behind Rio Mares from Cibola.  Hall was invited to the Scout.com combine and had a very good showing, especially in the one on one aspect of the combine.  He also posted one of the top Pro Agility times at the event.

What were your thoughts on the Scout.com Combine?
I thought the Scout Combine was a great opportunity for me and other athletes to compete with each other and see where we stand as far as it goes for our talent.

How did you think you performed?
I think overall I performed pretty well. I did not like the results in everything I did, but I felt that I was there and was able to compete with the athletes that were there. The things that I did not do well on, I will improve in those fields.

Who were some of the players that really stood out to you?
I was not able to really get see other players because I was worrying about the way that I was performing. One guy that I was impressed with was Taylor. He was a running back.

What did you think about Coach Baker?  What did you learn from him that you will take with you?
I felt that Coach Baker was a great guy, and he tried to help out these athletes the best that he could. He worked with us to make us better. I learned from Coach Baker that you can never be too good to do something. Work on your parts of the game all the time. I will make sure that I work on my routes more often.

What's going on with recruiting at this point?
Right now I have offers from Army (West Point) and NMSU. I have received interest from Washigton, Oregon, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona St., San Diego State, Iowa, Harvard, Penn, Cornell, Columbia, LSU, Air Force, and New Mexico. So for the most part it is going well.

What did you think about the overall talent level at this combine?
I thought the talent at the combine was legit. There was talent, and it made me push myself even harder to compete with those guys. It was very important that I did a good job, and performed well because New Mexico does not get the attention that other states do, so when we go to combines we have to perform well.

Advice you would give to those who might get recruited in the future?
My advice would be to go hard every time at everything you do. Everything counts. Football is a game of inches, so everything counts, and just go out there, compete and give it your all.

Going into the combine James had an offer from New Mexico State a few days later he was offered by Army.  With his GPA (4.0) expect him to continue to get looks and for several Ivy League schools to really get on him in the near future.
