Summer plans with Cody Blocker

In today's day and age of recruiting, it's very important that players get out and about in order to gain exposure from colleges. One player who understands this is Del Norte's Cody Blocker. Blocker checks in to let us know his plans for this summer.

We called the 2007 season the year of the QB in New Mexico.  Landry Jones from Artesia was one of the top ranked signal callers in the country; he ended up signing and enrolling early at Oklahoma.  Cibola’s Jonathan Mader also signed D1 inking with New Mexico.  Both of those QB’s were more in the traditional drop back mold of signal caller.  While this year’s class will not have an elite level prospect like Jones there are a few QB’s that will get looks.  This year’s crop is more of the non traditional more dual threat type of prospect.  Las Cruces Dante Caro at this point is still our top ranked QB, but others are making a name for themselves around the camp circuit this summer.  One player who hopes to continue working and hopefully come away with a scholarship this summer is Del Norte’s Cody Blocker.  We interviewed Blocker a few months back and also posted his highlight tape with an evaluation on him as a prospect.  Today we bring you the latest with recruiting and his thoughts on the upcoming season.

We asked Cody if he had any offers yet to speak of and which teams he has been hearing from the most.  “I don’t have any offers yet. I am currently hearing from Midwestern, New Mexico, New Mexico State, and New Mexico Highlands.”  Most colleges will not offer a QB unless they see them throw live, so it’s important that prospects get out to schools in order to make an impression.  Blocker understands this, “I am leaving for Oregon on Thursday for the Nike Combine in Portland and the Nike Camp in Eugene. I also plan on attending the Baylor and Texas Tech camps.”  With summer now officially upon us, they next thing around the corner is the start of the football season.  So we asked Cody how his off-season practice routine was coming along, “Practice starts on the 16th so right now I am working on conditioning as well as ladder drills for quickness.”

Cody Blocker if he is looked at by a school that runs a system suitable to his abilities could end up being a real sleeper this season.  We have posted his highlight video as well, just click on the link below to watch Del Norte’s athletic signal caller in action.
