Take a look at two bruising backs. Watch video of Gus Bowe from NM and Beau Burton from AZ in a side by side comparison.

One of the fun things about watching high school football from around the country is to try and compare the talent from around the country.  We thought it would be fun to compare athletes from two different states and see what the outcome is.  So over the next few days we will be comparing prospects from New Mexico and prospects from Arizona.  We have selected players from the same positions and tried to find players with the same height and weight.  Some of these players have major offers from Pac 10 level schools; while others are still waiting to hear a school call them up.  Again, we are doing this more as a gage to hopefully, better understand the recruiting process and to compare the talent level in the two states.

Today we take a look at a couple of hard nosed RB in Gus Bowe from La Cueva NM and Beau Burton from Saguaro HS in Scottsdale.

The Saguaro Sabercats are the two time defending champions in 4AI.  One of the main contributors to there success has been the ability of Beau Burton.  As a sophomore Burton rushed for over 900 yards and had a big title game to seal the deal.  Beau rushed for more than 1300 yards as a junior again helping to win a state title.  He is considered one of the better backs in AZ coming back for the 2008 season.  At this point the 5’11 210 RB still doesn’t have an offer, however he continues to hear from several different schools and should get something before the season ends.  Here is a link to his highlight video.

La Cueva HS has always produced top notch talent.  They send just as many players to the D1 ranks as any other school in the state.  This year they have a couple of seniors that will get a chance to play football in college in WR Isaiah Fuller and RB/LB Gus Bowe.  Bowe is a bruising type back with good size (5’10 200) and speed (4.55).  He also is a very instinctive LB that will make plays all over the field.  Bowe had a good showing at our Phoenix combine and held his own against some of the top backs in the southwest.  At this point Bowe still has no offers but he is hearing from schools like Utah, New Mexico State and UTEP.  Here is a link to his highlight video.
