One of the fun things about watching high school football from around the country is to try and compare the talent from around the country. We thought it would be fun to compare athletes from two different states and see what the outcome is. So over the next few days we will be comparing prospects from New Mexico and prospects from Arizona. We have selected players from the same positions and tried to find players with the same height and weight. Some of these players have major offers from Pac 10 level schools; while others are still waiting to hear a school call them up. Again, we are doing this more as a gage to hopefully, better understand the recruiting process and to compare the talent level in the two states.
Today we take a look at a couple of LB’s in Hobbs NM Brandon Solomon and Jake Goddard from Queen Creek HS in AZ.
Solomon has been a major force for the Eagles the last two seasons. He is a shorter prospect standing 5’10 and 200 pounds, but he is very instinctive and makes plays all over the field. He was one of the top overall tacklers during the 2007 season and figures to be one of the top four or five linebackers in New Mexico this season. Here is a link to his highlight video. Watch Video
Queen Creek LB Jake Goddard is very similar to Solomon in their height and weight ratio. Goddard checks in at 5’11 190 and runs in the 4.8 range. Goddard also lines up at FB for the Bulldogs and will be a big player towards their success this season. Jake was a first team all region selection as a junior after recording more than 80 tackles. There you have it, two players side by side. Who’s your take?
