Rio Rancho's stud LB Zach Drapeau, recently sent us his junior tape, which we posted last week. We were also asked to write up an evaluation on him as a college prospect. Check out this story it's a free one, so talk it up on the boards. If you have film for us to put up and would like an evalution done on you as a prospect. Email us newmexicoinsider@yahoo.com

Positives
Drapeau has really good size at 6’2 and 220 pounds.  He plays with a high motor and with a tremendous amount of passion.  The one thing you won’t see on his film, is a lack of desire, he plays hard and is a real leader on the defensive side of the ball.  He plays sideline to sideline and plays in the middle of the defense using great leverage as a tackler.

Negatives

Zach needs to trust his keys and just go; he hesitates on plays coming directly at him.  He needs to trust what his key is and go right now to explode through the ball carrier.  Zach will also make plays, but he sometimes makes them by running around blockers, he needs to run through blockers in a down hill motion.  He will hesitate for a step or two than go, now he’s big enough and strong enough to get away with this in high school, but that’s a problem in college, where the lineman will be just as fast and bigger than he is.

Overall Prospect
Drapeau is a very interesting prospect.  He has great size that colleges look for in a true “Mike” backer, which is his best position.  He tackles well enough and uses good leverage as a defender.  He needs to work on his instincts and trust what his keys are and not hesitate against an offense.  If he learns these pieces he will improve his stock as a prospect.

Bottom Line

Zach is a very good LB and is currently our #2 overall LB in New Mexico right now.  Zach continues to hear from several different schools, which is not surprising because of his size and also his high GPA.  Just looking at his film, right now I think he’s a solid 1AA type prospect.  If he works on the hesitation part of playing the position I think he could slide into a mid major type school, late in the process.  I can see several schools remaining in contact with him, than if a few of their prospects fall through the cracks, Drapeau might be their man.
