Under the Radar

To date, 8 players from the 2011 class have been offered D-I scholarships. It's unlikely that many more players will be offered by a D-I school, however, there are a few prospects that for whatever reason have been overlooked or passed by to this point. The following prospects are PrepNewMexico.com's under the radar recruits. Some of these prospects could very likely play themselves into that coveted D-I scholarship:

Koby Caton 5'9, 165 WR (Artesia HS)- Caton is obviously slightly undersized for a WR prospect, however at the end of the day he is an athlete with great hands, great route running, and legit 4.4 speed. There are plenty of guys his size playing at the D-I level with less speed and less polish coming out of high school. His film alone says D-I slot receiver and kick return specialist. In person he shows incredible field awareness, quickness, and game changing ability. I'm shocked spread teams haven't offered this young man and think a few schools have really missed the boat on his evaluation. Truly reminds me of Wes Welker.

Isaac Leon 6'0, 210 LB (St. Pius X HS)- One thing keeps Leon from being a 5+ offer guy and that's his 40 speed. If Leon could run a 4.75 40 he would likely be offered by every regional D-I school. However he is more of a 4.95 type guy and isn't exactly oversized either. However, when in coverage Leon can turn his hips and run with nearly any RB. He has proved at numerous camps that he can (at times) shut down D-I RB's in coverage. Watching the film, he is great in run support and destroys ball carriers and rarely takes a false step. Overall he is another guy who I feel has the tools to be a D-I player and could play into a D-I scholarship. Many schools are watching him closely.

Jordan Ratliff 5'11, 180 RB (Sandia HS)- Has very great 4.48 type speed, is smooth with the ball in hand and can catch out of the backfield. Not undersized by any means and has D-I football bloodlines. Another one of those head scratching scenarios in which it's hard to pin point the lack of college interest. Ratliff has also proven to be a dangerous return man and even has the skill set to play FS if RB doesn't work out.

Daniel Jaramillo 5'11, 195 RB (Belen HS)- Jaramillo has the best RB film in the state, outside of Ronnie Daniels. He will never be a 4.4 type guy and won't consistently run away from D-I defensive backs, however he has great vision, can make all the cuts and is about a tough a runner as you can get. If Jaramillo got into a pro-style offense (at the next level) or even a triple option offense….he would really shine. He already possesses D-I size and is another one of those guys who could easily be turned into a great SS if RB didn't work out. Not really sure what kind of camping he did and that may be hurting his recruitment.

Others:

Brandon Branch 5'11, 175, 4.6 CB/WR (Academy HS)- Great bloodlines, impessive highlight and the overall talent to develop into a D-I starter at CB or even WR.

Tyler McCulloch 6'5, 195, 4.7 WR (Eldorado HS)- Huge target with decent speed and great ball skills. Has the talent to compete at the D-I level and provides a big match-up issue for any CB.

Quran Wiggins 6'0, 190 4.6 RB (Clovis HS)- Explosive runner with great size and upside. Passes the eyeball test and could put up some real big stats.

Mark Tapia 6'0 230, 4.55 ATH (Cibola HS)- Is currently a standout RB for Cibola HS but has the size and speed to be a great OLB prospect. Great size, great speed and big upside at OLB.

Stan Sedberry 6'3, 200, 4.55 OLB (La Cueva HS)- Currently Ronnie Daniels' back up at RB but has great potential as an OLB. Not very man kids can run, jump and move like this 6'3 200 kid. Must prove he can play like Tarzan too, not just look like him.
